Although the Eye of God (Ojo de Dios) may have origins in South America and in Tibet, it is most clearly connected with the Huichol Indians of the Sierra Madre Mountains of Mexico. It is said that the God's Eye was created by expectant parents to safely deliver their child into this world and to thereafter protect them through a long and healthy life. God's Eyes were placed in the hair, on tips of arrows, or on the wall, and used in prayer or ceremony to protect people and property from the "evil eye". The image of an eye was used as an amulet in many cultures of the world to ward off bad luck wished upon them by their enemies.
